The city of Southampton on England's south coast is the biggest city in the county of Hampshire.
Southampton has a long and illustrious maritime history, is still one of the busiest commercial ports in Europe and is still the departure point for many cruise ships. Because of its position as the departure point of many vessels, Southampton was once known as 'The Gateway to the Empire'.
In fact, the city was where the Mayflower set sail in 1620 when the Pilgrim Fathers departed England for North America, witnessed the beginning of the tragic maiden voyage of the unsinkable RMS Titanic and was the home port for Cunard vessels the RMS Queen Mary, RMS Queen Elizabeth and their subsequent replacements the QE2 and QM2.
Southampton achieved further fame as the home of the Supermarine Spitfire, the RAF fighter that was so instrumental in defeating the Luftwaffe in the 'Battle of Britain' in World War Two. As a result the factory and the city as a whole were targets for the Germans because of its importance as a commercial area and its docks, and much of Southampton was flattened, resulting in a large scale development since the mid 1940s.
As with many cities in the UK, Southampton has undergone a lot of modernisation in recent years and this has seen the introduction of upmarket developments throughout.
This modernisation has brought a number of good additions to the city's nightlife, which is considered to be the best in the region. Indeed, Southampton is said to be one of the best cities for single 18-30 year olds in the United Kingdom.
Southampton has a number of traditional and historic pubs, as well as its fair share of music venues, trendy bars, restaurants, clubs and three casinos: the Grosvenor Casino Southampton, Genting Casino Harbour Quay and the Genting Club Terminus Terrace.
A number of the city's night time attractions can be found along West Quay Road at Leisure World, which is a modern multi-purpose complex with restaurants, bars, a multi-screen cinema and the Grosvenor Casino.
The Grosvenor Casino Southampton is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and offers blackjack, American and electronic roulette, three-card poker, and slots; a fully licensed bar which is open until 6am; and The Dining Room which is open Wednesday to Saturday until 2am.
Genting Casino Harbour Quay is located close by the Town Quay train station in the city centre and has blackjack, American and electronic roulette and three-card poker, plus patrons can set up their own private poker table. A bar snack menu is available, Thursday night serves up a complimentary Indian buffet and there is a bar with a late license.
The Genting Club Terminus Terrace can be found at Terminus House and is open seven days a week until 6am. Patrons can play blackjack, American and electronic roulette, three-card poker, plus hire a poker table for up to 50 people for just £5 per hour.
The Genting Club Terminus Terrace also has a restaurant which opens from 7pm until 3am and every Monday and Tuesday night features a complimentary Chinese buffet.
