Portsmouth Casinos
The city of Portsmouth, located on the south coast of England, is part of the county of Hampshire. It is unique within the United Kingdom as it is the only island city in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, sitting as it does on Portsea Island.
As might be expected from a city on the coast, Portsmouth has a long, proud and illustrious maritime history and has been a significant naval port for hundreds of years.
The city is the home of the world's oldest dry dock while some of the most important ships in England's successful naval past, Lord Nelson's HMS Victory among them.
As with many cities in the UK, Portsmouth has been undergoing some much needed urban regeneration. The Tricorn Centre in the heart of the city has been knocked down to be replaced by residential apartments, shops, restaurants and a four-star hotel, while the Gunwharf Quays area of the city is now home to a multi-purpose entertainment centre complete with designer shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
Although relatively small as far as cities go, Portsmouth is home to a thriving nightlife scene, one which attracts people from all over the county. Popular watering holes include Poco's, the Old Ferry Landing, the Spring Hill Tavern, the Portsmouth Brewery, The Library at the Old Rockingham Hotel, the Muddy River Smokehouse and Ri Ra Irish pub, while those in the mood for dancing head to Liquid & Envy Nightclub and Club 8 to name but two.
Portsmouth is also home to three casinos: Genting Electric, Grosvenor on Osbourn Road and Grosvenor at Gunwharf Quays.
Genting Electric Portsmouth is located on Commercial Road and is open seven days a week from 8am until 4am. As the name would suggest, Genting Electric focuses on electronic gaming; visitors can entertain themselves with electronic roulette and slots. Hot and cold refreshments are available.
The Grosvenor Casino at Gunwharf Quays is located in one of the city's more upmarket areas and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Gunwharf Quays Grosvenor offers a good selection of games including two types of poker, American and electronic roulette and blackjack and also offers 'experience packages' to add to the excitement of a visit.
The Grosvenor at Gunwharf Quays has a restaurant which opens from 7pm until 2am and a bar which serves from 10am until 6 in the morning.
The city's second Grosvenor Casino, located on Osborne Road, opens from midday until 4am every day of the week.
The Osborne Road Grosvenor has a separate poker rooms as well as offering slots, blackjack and two types of roulette.
Like its sister casino at Gunwharf Quays, the Grosvenor has a restaurant and bar which opens until late and offers the same experience packages for those wanting to make the most out of the gaming experience.
